Class of 2026 Convocation

The Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare will honor its Class of 2026 on Tuesday, May 19, at Stony Brook Arena. Dean Shari Miller, staff, faculty, and family members will celebrate students graduating from our MSW and BSW programs as they prepare for the next phase of their social work journeys.

Chantel Cabrera, MBA, LMSW, '12
Assistant Vice President, Service Programs and Initiatives 
Metropolitan Transit Authority

Chantel Cabrera serves as assistant vice president, service programs and initiatives, directly supporting New York City Transit’s (NYCT) chief operating officer and leading strategic efforts to enhance service delivery and operational performance across NYCT. Her portfolio focuses on developing and implementing initiatives that improve customer experience, streamline processes, and align with agency-wide priorities. 

She most recently served as senior director, subways coordination and solutions, in the Office of the Executive Vice President, Department of Subways. She was the department’s lead on key projects, including the 1 billion dollar investment in the '25-29 capital plan for wide aisle gate implementation. 

Chantel served as director of public affairs for Pace University’s New York City campus, where she combined her passion for at-promise youth, community relations, and local government knowledge. Before Pace, she served as the director of community affairs for New York State Senator Brian Kavanagh, representing Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn waterfront communities.

Before working with the New York State Senate, she spent five years at the New York Center for Interpersonal Development, a leading Staten Island-based non-profit organization, as the director of workforce initiatives.
