Violence has become one of the major focal points inour society today. The prevalence of family violence has created long-term difficulties for individuals, families and society. Violence is directly responsible for increase in substance abuse, incarceration and mental health difficulties.
SUNY at Stony Brook is uniquely equipped with some of the finest educators and researchers in the area of family violence. The School of Social Welfare has had a long-standing commitment to, and collaboration with, the community regarding issues of violence. It is with this vision that the School of Social Welfare collaborates with University and Community leaders to develop multi-disciplinary training, research, and policy analysis in the area of family violence through the establishment of the Family Violence Education and Research Center.
