We are proud of our alums! Congratulations, Gina, on your election to the Riverhead Free Library Board of Trustees!

"My name is Gina Chinese and I am a resident of Riverhead who cares deeply about our community. I graduated with a Master of Social Work, specializing in Community, Policy and Political Social Action and a Bachelor of Social Work from Stony Brook University. As part of my education at Stony Brook, I completed two community-based internships. First, I interned for the Suffolk County Legislature where I had the opportunity to learn more about the needs of the East End and interact with and hear directly from community members. Second, I interned for the National Association of Social Workers - NYS Chapter - working to organize social workers on Long Island. For the last five years I have been working at a service based nonprofit organization, providing needed services to underserved communities impacted by the opioid epidemic. In March 2022 I was sworn in as a Riverhead Free Library Board Trustee to serve out the remainder of a term. As the last public place where patrons aren’t required or expected to spend money, libraries need to have the resources to thrive in our society. My experience working with diverse groups and my social work education makes me an excellent candidate for Library Board Trustee. I plan on bringing my unique perspective, problem solving, and collaborative nature to the Riverhead Library Board".
