Courtney Kidd, a first-year Stony Brook School of Social Welfare Ph.D. student, earned honorable mention recognition for her presentation at BRIDGES: A Cross-Departmental Graduate Student Conference on Jan. 30.
BRIDGES was the first graduate-only conference at Stony Brook. It featured career center training, film screenings, a concert, and a poster session featuring the research of students from both the East Campus and West Campus. Kidd was honored for her presentation, "Human-Robot Interactions for the Social World."
"I was honored that, in its beginning stage, the judges acknowledged my research and poster," said Kidd. "I look forward to seeing how Stony Brook graduate students will lead the next charge of growth, not just as independent researchers, but as partners in learning."
SSW Associate Professor Anna Hayward, Ph.D., MSW, served as a poster-session judge, and two other Ph.D. students--Xiao Liang and Bingjie Wang--also attended the conference.
Stony Brook Executive Vice President and Provost Carl Lejuez gave keynote remarks. He highlighted the work of SSW Ph.D. graduate and new faculty member Haylee Hebenstreit as a shining example of a cross-disciplinary dissertation.
"I was excited and deeply humbled to be a part of the first BRIDGES conference," added Kidd. "Graduate students from across Stony Brook came together to share their research and grow a culture of collaboration and interdisciplinary work."
