Marvin L. Colson is a clinical associate professor and the director of developmental disabilities programs at the Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare. Before his current directorship, Professor Colson worked at the NYS Office of People with Developmental Disabilities for more than 21 years, including seven years as the Long Island Regional Director.

Professor Colson has over 25 years of executive-level public health policy and management experience with all levels of government and private organizations in developing and administering quality health programs. Many of his service and management paradigms are designed to have emphasis on the recruitment, retention, training, and recognition of a quality workforce. He is an internationally recognized expert in the management and delivery of services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

He also directs the School of Social Welfare's Extraordinary Caregivers Recognition and Supervisor/Manager's Training Programs and has been the recipient of numerous national and state-wide leadership and service awards throughout his career.

He is a native Long Islander and is a decorated war veteran who served as a combat medic.
