Student Spotlight: Gina Chinese Running for Riverhead Library Board

Gina Chinese is a student in the MSW program in the School of Social Welfare. She is running for a seat on the Riverhead Library Board.

"My name is Gina Chinese. I’m a resident of Riverhead and care deeply about our community. At this time, I am a Master of Social Work student at Stony Brook University and will be graduating in May 2021. As part of my education at Stony Brook, I have completed two community based internships. Last year, I interned for the Suffolk County Legislature where I had the opportunity to learn more about the needs of the east end and interact with, and hear directly from, community members. This year I have been interning for the National Association of Social Workers - NYS Chapter - working to organize social workers on Long Island. For the last five years I have been working at a service based non profit organization, providing needed services to underserved communities. Libraries provide a necessary service to the community. As the last public place that doesn’t require patrons to spend money, libraries need to be allowed to thrive in our society. My experience working with diverse groups, and my social work education, makes me an excellent candidate for Library Board Trustee. I will bring my unique perspective, problem solving, and collaborative nature to the Riverhead Library Board.

The Riverhead Library Library Board Election is being held on Tuesday, April 6, from 10AM to 8PM at 330 Court Street, Riverhead, NY 11901.
