Student Spotlight: Randy Ficklin, MSW Class of '2022
Randy is running for the position of Delegate to the NASW Delegate Assembly. NASW members will receive an election ballot by email in the next few weeks.
Bio: I received my bachelors degree in Sociology from SUNY Old Westbury in 2020. While at Old Westbury I received an academic award for growth and development, in that year I was able to develop a clear understanding of my purpose in life and that I wanted to devote my time, patience and assistance to the field of social work. I always wanted to advocate for freedom, justice and equality for all. I’m a first year MSW student at Stony Brook University. I’ve been in the alcohol and substance abuse field for 10+ years at Confide Counseling Consultation Center. I maintain a case load of 30 clients, doing assessments, biosyshosocials, individual counseling and facilitating groups. I’m a co-facilitator of the NASW Revolutionize Leadership team . I have co-facilitated several town hall's and help develop workshops that will address and develop strategies to combat racism/ white supremacy in social work. As a representative to the delegate assembly, I will apply my knowledge, wisdom and understanding, my direct service and experience to the position.
Platform Statement: I am interested in this position as a delegate assembly, because of my passion for social work, its ethical standards and advocating for human rights on the individual and systems level. My goal is to be an active delegate in developing and implementing our chapter plan, help organize and support chapter members, play my position in developing a strong line of communication with members. Be willing to participate in discussions and debates, represent for members and their perspective as well as their experiences, be open to participate on statewide committees when appointed to them. Becoming aware of the NASW professional policies and representing the delegate assembly to the best of my ability.
