Student Spotlight: Fareha Ahmed, BSW Candidate, '2022

Fareha is running for the BSW Student Representative position on the NASW NYS Chapter Board of Directors! NASW members will receive an election ballot by email in the next few weeks.

Bio: Fareha is currently a BSW student at the Stony Brook School of Social Welfare. Fareha has been very involved in her undergraduate career prior to being in the social work program such as being part of an advocacy club called I Am That Girl. She has helped lead productive conversations on social issues as a Eboard member of the club as well as facilitated in organizing events to help fundraise for charities. Fareha is passionate about social justice issues and making change which is why she chose this field. Fareha is also passionate about being involved in NASW as a social work student and promoting the involvement and impact of students in this field. Fareha is a member of the NASW-NYS COMM committee as well as the NASW Awards committee.

Platform Statement: Since joining NASW this past year, I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people, build connections and work on different committees and events. This has inspired me to run for this position because I want to help more social work students get involved with NASW. As the BSW student representative, I plan on initiating outreach programs or events to encourage social work students all across New York to join NASW. I also want to plan more networking events for students to be able to connect with social workers and learn more about the different career paths available to them as well as how to utilize their resources. I believe it is important for students to have the opportunity to learn more about their field and be involved so they can foster the passion for their career. If elected for BSW student representative, I will work to build a bridge between social work students and professionals.
