Senior BSW Student Selected as Student of the Year by NASW NYS Suffolk Division

NASW WinnerApril 2016 - Alaina Ingram a senior undergraduate in the BSW program has been selected as the Social Work Student of the Year by NASW NYS - Suffolk Division.  The award honors a current BSW student who demonstrates commitment to the community, the social work profession and their academic study. She will be honored at a ceremony on April 23 at the Brentwood Country Club.

According to Alaina, “when I first entered the School of Social Welfare, I was not sure what direction I wanted to go with my career. After being in the school for a year, I was able to find my passion. I was able to see the negative effect some policies can have on the work we do with individuals. I am very passionate about changing policies that are oppressive and promote injustice, and I plan to pursue a career in policy and administration in my future. I do not currently have one population of people I want to work with. As a social worker, I feel it is important to work with and advocate for a variety of different oppressed populations. I plan to continue my education in the School of Social Welfare next year for my Advanced Standing MSW with a specialization in Community and Political Social Action”.

Congratulations on receiving this honor, Alaina!
